Kansas City is very safe. There are areas, however, that are less safe than others. On the Kansas side going east into the Quindaro area it can be unsafe at times. And also as someone mentioned Troost, Swope park and even some areas just south of the plaza near UMKC (on the Missouri side) have their moments.
